How about some Sightseeing for free?
Yes, you've read right - we have some free sightseeing here in the Charente. It's a scheme that was in fact started last year by the Conseil General and 4 sites were opened for free sightseeing once a month. This year it has increased to 6 and the simple reason is to attract more visitors and hopefully people will return with friends another day. The sites were chosen to show different attractions available in the department and there are
historic sites,
about the
cognac industry
and the
visual arts industry.
Following I have listed all the free
sightseeing
places for you to go and visit. Of course I will add others if they become free, but for now just enjoy these:
Cassinomagus
It's a Roman-Gallic site at Chassenon. It is open free the first Saturday of the month starting from 15th March, between 14.00 and 17.30. Unfortunately between July and August are no free periods, which in my opinion is ridiculous as this is Tourist season, but hey no one asked me........
Abbaye de Saint-Amant de Boixe
Romanesque architecture centre. Open free on the first Saturday of the month from 15.00 to 18.00
Cognac Museum
Museum of Art Cognac and this is open free the first Saturday and Sunday of the month from 14.00 to 17.30
Museum of Art and History Cognac
Open free the first Saturday and Sunday of the month from 14.00 to 17.30
Monolithe Church Aubeterre
Open free the first Saturday of the month from 09.30 to 12.30 and from 14.00 to 18.00
Comic Strip Museum
It's in Angouleme and it is open free the first Sunday of the month from 14.00 to 18.00
The only thing is that apparently the times could change during the year - so do check before you decide to visit any of the places. As soon as I hear about any changes I will post them here at
