RIBERAC - A GREAT FRENCH MARKET TOWN IN THE NORTHERN DORDOGNE

Riberac, a pleasant french Market town, dates back to the 9th century and is set in the Dronne Valley in the northern Dordogne region.

It is surrounded by hilly countryside of woods and hay meadows.

The town would be a good base for exploring the northern part of the Dordogne and it is not too far away from Aubeterre-sur-Dronne.

It is a pleasant town with a main shopping street where you can find various shops, bars and restaurants.

Near by you will find a very large forest called 'Foret de la Double' where you can go for nice long walks and maybe have a picnic.

And of course Riberac is best known for the Friday Market. It is reputedly the biggest market in Perigord and you will find producers and wholesalers from all around.

Whatever you are after - you are bound to find it there.

You will find your usual clothes stalls and souvenirs stalls but you will also find great fresh fruit and vegetables.

Stalls with exotic smelling spices, fresh fish and meat.

You can enjoy all the great smells of France in one place.

Every time I go there I just enjoy walking around and looking at everything.

When you are at one of these markets you can still see the way France used to be.

It seems to be the meeting place for the older generation, where their meet once a week and do some catching up.

It is always very busy and you might have to start early to find a good parking place.

And it will take you all morning to get round the market as there is so much to see.

It just makes me feel happy to know that I actually live here and I can enjoy this any time I feel like it.........

How about you come yourself and visit Riberac and you can share and enjoy the same experience.

I found Riberac a pleasant little town but apart from the market on Friday there is not very much to do.

But then you might be after exactly that - very quite town so it gives you a lot of time to relax and do nothing!!!After all, it's your holiday............

Or you can always make it your base and then explore the other villages all around like Cognac, Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, Chalais and many others.

Whatever you decide to do, have fun and enjoy yourself in the South-West France.
