The Short Story about Me and my Family

Here you will find all about me and my story of life here in the Charente, South-West France with my Family.

It will give you the opportunity to get to know me better and it might just feel like we are friends if you are, like me, interested in this part of France - the Charente.

My name is Katrina and I was born and raised in Germany.

So, when you read my site don't be surprised if the english is not quite perfect, but I still hope you will enjoy it.

I left Germany in 1984 for the 'big, bad' city London where I met my husband Kim.

After living in England for 17 years we left in March 2001 with me being 7 month pregnant.

And now we, my husband Kim, my daughter Tattiana and my son Sacha live in the heart of the South Charente region in a small village called

How to tell you all about me is not an easy task, as I am not quite sure where to start.

I guess you would be interested in why we moved here and why I think I could be your helpful guide to the lovely South-West France.

So, let me tell you about me and my journey here.

I got married to Kim in 1999 in a little village called Broxted which is located in Essex, England.

For our honeymoon we went to the South of France as both of us always loved France.

While there, an idea began to form about maybe buying a holiday home.

As soon as we got home I started my research in to property. The more I researched, the more I wanted to live in France all the time and not just for holidays.

We have been for a short break in Bordeaux before and I just knew that is where our house had to be or at least near there.

After a lot of discussions we realised we both wanted the same, a complete change of life.

Kim was working as a Pilot at that time and he was quite happy to leave, as we decided he would look after any children that may come along.

For me it was quite easy. Working as a Flight Attendant for United Airlines out of Heathrow Airport in London, I transferred to Paris, France.

Now all we had to do was to find the house of our dreams.

We took a few viewing trips but did not find what we were looking for.

Then in September of 2000 we found out that we were expecting our first child.

By this time I was already working out of Paris and commuting from Stansted.

Kim had handed in his notice to finish on the 31st December and still no house.

We did one more trip in November and it was the lucky one....., we found Chez Boucher in the historic village of Poullignac in the Charente.

I hope you enjoyed the story about me and my family so far!

We were delighted and in March 2001 we left England for a new life in the Charente, South-West France.

It took us a while to get used to everything, in particular trying to talk French all the time.

Both our french was limited, but all that has changed now.

On May 30th our beautiful girl Tattiana was born, so our first summer was pretty busy with being new parents and accommodating all our friends who came to visit.

Once the summer had turned slowly in to autumn and then in to winter I realised that I absolutely loved living here in the Charente and I was sure that maybe other people would love to come and see this charming part of France.

That is about me so far and I think you got to know me better already. But let me carry on explaining how this website came about.

Opposite our house was another building which had not been lived in since the sixties. The previous owners only used it as a weekend escape, so it was in quite a state.

In 2004 we decided to buy it, renovate it and turn it in to a holiday cottage.

We called it 'La Petite Maison' and I thought it would be lovely for people to come here on a holiday and share the charm of the Charente with us.

This is how 'La Petite Maison' looked last week, which was at the beginning of 2010. Yes, we had a lot of snow come down on us here in the Charente.

It is quite amazing if you look at these photos of the winter and then have a look at the summer photos. Looks like a different place altogether.

Let me just carry on the story about me and then you can enjoy the rest of my website which will hopefully give you all the information you are after.

In 2005 everything changed again for us as my company decided to close the Paris base and I found out we were going to have another baby.

A very tumultuous time as a lot of decisions had to be made. My husband decided to go back to work and I left United Airlines at the end of February 2006.

At the beginning of May our little boy Sacha, was born.

Now as I was not working and being a full time Mum I started to think about what I could be doing once Sacha was a bit older and started school.

By the time he did start school I knew that I would love to write about the Charente, South-West France and share my knowledge with people like you.

I started to do a lot of research and finally started to create my own website in January 2010.

So, that was all about me in not too long a story and I hope you feel that you know me a bit better now.

I hope you enjoyed reading it and that you will get all the information about the Charente you need from my side.

If there is anything you would like to know about the Charente or you can't find, why not contact me and I will do my best to help you.
